Food Forest Design Service
We design custom Food Forests for our clients to suit their specific needs. Our clients range from home owners , to education providers, to businesses wanting to promote a greener image. Every Food Forest is uniquely designed to suit the clients site conditions, with plants suitable for the clients needs. We take care of everything from site analysis, to plant selection, to Food Forest aftercare. Check out our process below.

01 Consultation
During our first meeting, we'll establish your food forest goals. It could be produce/food security, medical supplies, cut flowers, wildlife restoration, plants that kids enjoy, or perhaps all of the above? Our first consultation also gives us the chance to explain time frames, costs and to answer questions that you may have about the process. For larger and more complex projects we may need to travel to your site.

02 Research & Report
Extensive research forms the bedrock of the food forest design process. We consider various factors such as sun, terrain, historical land usage, existing vegetation and structures, utilities, prevailing winds, climate data, soil composition, viewpoints, local fauna, pets, traffic, pathways, and accessibility. We'll require your help to answer some of these questions.
While you're waiting for your site report to be finalised, we will have already sent you an introduction to Food Forests (physical booklet) which covers our whole process, and explains how a Food Forest system works.

03 Plant Selection
Once your site report is complete, we'll send you our plant catalog. Our catalog contains many edible, ornamental, medicinal, crafting, and wildlife attracting plants. We will have plant recommendations for your site based off our initial report. We're mindful of what grows best in your area, whether you're based in Keri Keri or Invercargill.
Once we have your list of desired plants, we'll do our best to incorporate them into your Food Forest design. We may swap out, remove, and add plants until we're both happy with your plant list.

04 Delivery
After 4-6 weeks, your Food Forest Design Package will be complete. Your Design Package contains a forest map of all plants and pathways. You will also receive a plant information sheet which details each plant and its unique role in your Food Forest.
You will also receive a physical pack of materials and instructions to begin the installation of your Food Forest.

05 Installation
Forest of Eden does not carry out the physical installation of your food forest. We hire trusted local gardening companies from your area. We provide simple instructions on the entire process if you would prefer to carry out the installation yourself. It is very straightforward.
Due to best tree planting times and growing certain plants to order, your Food Forest may not be fully planted all at once.
The establishment of a Food Forest is broken down into phases. These phases are: The establishment phase, the development phase, and the maturity Phase. Our information booklet describes this journey in detail.
